Commercial
I'm always a very ambitious director, and this project was no exception. I got inspiration for creating a car commercial from shows like "Top Gear". In the show, I noticed how they got awesome camera angles of the car while it was moving and someone was driving it. The challenge in getting this shot was attaching the camera to something that could view all sides of the car while moving over 40 mph on a closed course. To do this, I had a friend drive over with his car and I attached a GoPro mounted onto a custom Fig Rig that I built in order to make sure the footage wasn't shaky as the car was moving, and then I secured it inside of the back of the trunk. The car then drove in front of my car as the camera in back recorded the footage. The second idea I had for the project was to shoot the commercial on the premise of a music video by Muse called "Knights of Cydonia". I matched up the footage to the music video and color corrected it to create that "Desert-like" feel despite the fact we were filming in Wisconsin in the middle of spring. I then added lens flares to make the car jump off the screen. The project was a huge success overall and was almost exactly how I pictured it in my head when we started. I used a combination of Adobe Premier and After Effects along with Sony Vegas to composite the footage and I rendered it using Adobe Media Encoder.
