Student DEMO REEL
Making this demo reel was a very fun project. I got to bring back all the old videos from years ago that my friends and I made, (Which weren't as good back then because I was inexperienced). I also got to remix one classical song ("In the Hall Of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg) into multiple variations (dubstep, classic piano, 8-bit, rock). One thing I really wanted to do with this project was the "rewind date" effect, which I had seen used in other videos before but never actually knew how to do until now in after effects. In addition to that I also got to remix the audio in to sync it to the music and make it play like more of a montage than just a demo reel played over music. And the old film effect was also really fun to experiment with as I showed off how bad my editing skills were when I started (Maybe I'm being too hard on myself, but they certainly aren't as good as they are in the end of the reel.) Once again, thanks to Jake Bishop & Aaron Robar, two people who introduced me to making videos on Youtube as something to do with my life. Without them, I would have never learned how to use Sony Vegas, and I would've been bored out of my mind for the past 4 years. I edited this video entirely in Sony Vegas, apart from the title animation at the beginning and the rendering process. One important thing I learned from this project was that Vegas does not handle lots of stacked footage tracks very well and tends to crash when rendering, so next time I'm going to stick with premier if I embark on something so data consuming as this.
